Evan Rosenblatt

Performer, Choreographer, Movement Educator, and practicing Kinesiologist

Evan Rosenblatt is a Performer, Choreographer, Movement educator, and practicing Kinesiologist. His creative work spans stage, film, lens and site, often collaborating with a collective of local talent from a variety of fields in pursuit of creative exploration. His work often explores themes of awakening, adaptability, healing and connection, and his process draws from his wide-ranging movement, dance, and somatics background. Drawn to movement at an early age, Evan excelled in a variety of sports (baseball, basketball, tennis and running.) Prepared to enter college to pursue baseball and physical therapy, he had a “routine” surgery that left him in worse excruciating pain for his entire freshman year. Still unable to move comfortably entering his second year, he enrolled in a "gentle" dance class at the urging of his father. To say he was swept away is an understatement. While pain relief wasn’t immediate, the exposure to both dance and somatic based disciplines became a remedy for his pain that nothing previously could offer. He ultimately would pursue dance and choreography with a voracious appetite, studying at many esteemed schools such as the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, and Ballet west Academy among others. While pursuing a professional career, Evan earned his Masters Degree in Kinesiology from Cal. St. Northridge, where his research investigated the effect of somatic based disciplines on the experience of wellness and embodiment during the creative process. Evan currently teaches “Embodied Anatomy of Movement” and "The Conscious Dancer” at CALARTS as well as a wide range of Dance, Somatics, and Kinesiology courses at Cal. St. Northridge. He has presented his work at multiple conferences and festivals, and continues to pursue uncovering obstacles to physical, mental, and emotional connectedness that is a symptom of our separation from each other and the natural world.
