Becoming Neuro-Diversity-Informed -Tips, Tricks & Tools for ND people and their potential helpers
With rates of ADHD (maybe the most well-known form of neuro diversity/divergency) at between 3 and 11% worldwide, and minimal estimates of Autism Spectrum Disorder at about 1 in 160, there are significant numbers of people on the planet affected by the various challenges ND or non-typical neurology poses. Embodiment practices have so much to offer in developing and maintaining coping skills, resiliency, and the possibility to thrive for any type of ND, but so many offerings in the embodiment world have not been created or adapted with the goal of being ND informed and better able to serve the needs of those who are ND. This presentation will introduce the main challenges that a majority of ND people encounter and offer suggestions and guidelines based on research (both clinical and experiential) showing the efficacy of embodiment practices in helping those who experience ND affects. By no means a comprehensive training, this hour should nevertheless provide inspiring and adaptable ideas for those who struggle with ND and those who are wanting to teach with better ND awareness. And become fodder for further dialogue, exchange, and development around this topic.
