Even before covid, the world health organisation expressed epidemic levels of anxiety - with the pandemic these levels have skyrocketed. With its combination of self-reflection, movement, breathwork, and meditation the therapeutic application of yoga offers a comprehensive embodied approach to managing anxiety that is effective and long-lasting. In this experiential lecture Heather Mason will discuss how anxiety presents in the brain, review the research evidence for yoga's role in neuroplasticity, and offer best practice for relieving anxiety in the short and long-term. Learning outcomes 1. With breathing, why less is more. Experience improved blood circulation, oxygen delivery and activation of the bodies parasympathetic response within 4 minutes. 2. Decongest and dilate the lower airways for easier breathing. Identify the connection between nose, slow and low breathing. 3. Explore the science of breathing.
